This is where you'll find my résumé, & goals for the future; including residence, occupation, and personal goals.
Now that I've graduated, I hope to relocate from my native Va. to any one of the wonderful metropolitan cities around the world- to practice my art and expand my career. Cities I have in mind are, San Francisco, New York, Toronto, Edinburgh, New Orleans, Galway, Madrid, Melbourne, Atlanta, Brisbane, London, and Tokyo.
For the past year I'd been searching exclusively for jobs which would directly draw upon my skills as an artist. However, it seems that few business take online applications seriously, so I'm concentrating more on get in contact with places personally, & being right there for any job opportunity, artistic or not. Occupations I've most frequently searched for have been: Book/Game Illustrator, Special Tour & Education Guide (museums & galleries), Artist's Assistant, museum/gallery receptionist & freelance artist, among others. However, I'd love just about any employment envolving the arts, be they up-front or behind the scenes. At the moment though, I do realize that any employment is good employment, and I'm completely willing to do one non-art-related job while I establish myself in the art community and do open art-related volunteer work, to get my foot in the door. As soon as I relocate to a more metropolitan area, I look forward to doing open-mic nights for singing gigs as well.
My goal is to eventually establish myself as a successful freelance artist. Hopefully some book & game illustration will lie along the way. If luck is on my side, I'll also be able to develop my singing career- which although is a little less tangible for me right now, is no less of a dream, or a serious goal. I would adore singing with the international performing troupe Cirque Du Soleil, in addition to establishing a successful solo recording career. It is my dream to follow in the footsteps of Loreena McKennitt, traveling the world while expressing through my art & song what's inspired me along the way. What a career!
Tantamount to these goals, I aim to better this planet while working on my career. Whether that be during my work-hours, or on my own time, it makes no difference. Important issues I would like to lend my efforts to include Environmental & Endangered Species Preservation, Social Issues Involving Persons With Disabilities, Women’s’ Issues, and Cultural/Ethnic/Religious Awareness. Lastly and most distinctly intermingled with my artistic aspirations, I plan to focus on utilizing the Arts to actively reach all people, especially persons with disabilities, the poor, and the elderly.
I suppose that in more ways that one I'm just interested in renewing Art’s relevancy to current issues, with a hope to become gainfully employed as an active artist/singer. Like most, I do hope to make a decent living at my chosen professions. I would like to be rather well off, but do not expect to be so right out of college, nor would I mind a bit of a trade-off in greater potential earnings for knowing that my actions/occupation was having a beneficial effect on the world environment.
Eventually I plan to have a family, but I don't want to get settled down until I'm well-established in my own career and have seen enough of the world that I won't feel I'm missing out on anything while I need to be at home. If God's got the same things in mind for me as I have, hopefully my home will be on a houseboat or in an exotic locale overseas. :) That way I can travel and still keep my precious family with me. Having lived in both Hawaii and Florida, a sub-tropical area I think would be my primary preference for raising a family. But by then I hope to have at least two homes, so that my family & I can travel comfortably back and forth with ease, not having to be uprooted too much if the need for travel arises. Family and friends have always been an enormous factor in my life. They're extremely important to me, and closeness with the ones I love will always be a priority to me. Money gained by a successful career will facilitate the travel I'll need to keep up in order to maintain my tight family ties. But without family, money means little- so I hope to be able to enjoy my good fortune with the ones I love. I am always on the lookout for new and exciting places & people to meet, but still enjoy friendships made from when I was a little girl.
So in my opinion, my horizons are ever-widening, and will continue to do so as long as I keep my mind, my eyes, and my heart open.
Even though it might seem to you that I have a lot of things in life I'd like to get done, I know that as long as I keep dreaming & working hard, doing what I know is right and supporting the things I believe in, success will eventually follow. Keeping my nose to the grindstone is important, love in life is much more so. With family and friends beside me, faith and love always a part of our lives, we can do nothing but succeed. With them, I know happiness will be ever-present.
